Benefit Concert Saturday S. Newfane

Past event
Jan 20, 2018, 7:30 PM

Wonderful concert this Sat the 20th at the Old Schoolhouse in South Newfane at 7:30 PM.

2x2 is Valerie Kosednar, Mark Grieco, and Lee and Betsy Rybeck Lynd, two couples who met through music. Musical activities past and present include participating in a cappella vocal ensembles and choirs, leading children’s choruses, coordinating musical programming for Nickelodeon, musical theatre, and rock and roll bands.

Our quartet was born about 4 years ago, singing songs after dinner. Early favorites included the sea chanty Bold Riley, Peter Amidon’s lovely arrangement of Ewan MacColl’s The Joy of Living, and Roly Salley's Killing the Blues. Recent additions include Steve Earl's City of Immigrants, Tom Waits' Come on up to the House, a musical setting of Innisvaddie's Annie (aka Wee Geordie) by Scottish poet Helen Cruickshank, and P'tite Fleur from the French-speaking island of Reunion. Songs at the South Newfane show will be accompanied on dobro and/or guitar or sung a cappella. Some are arranged for four voices, others come to us by oral traditions, still others tell stories.
