The Warren United Church (United Church of Christ) is pleased to welcome the Rev. Dr. Marvin Ellison who will preach next weekend (January 21st) on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of the congregation’s study and declaration as an Open & Affirming Congregation. The following covenant was adopted at that time:

The Warren United Church UCC holds its doors and hearts open to all who seek a deeper relationship and closer walk with Jesus Christ, regardless of race, color, creed, social and economic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical abilities, mental capacities, or political convictions. From 1981 to 2013, Dr. Ellison was professor of Christian Ethics at Bangor Theological Seminary. He completed his doctoral studies at Union Theological Seminary in New York City and is an ordained Presbyterian minister. He founded the Religious Coalition Against Discrimination in Maine to support civil rights protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. He also co-chaired the Religious Coalition for the Freedom to Marry in Maine. In addition to numerous essays and journal articles, Ellison has published these books: Erotic Justice: A Liberating Ethic of Sexuality (Westminster John Knox Press 1996), Body and Soul: Rethinking Sexuality as Justice-Love (The Pilgrim Press 2003), Same-Sex Marriage? A Christian Ethical Analysis (The Pilgrim Press 2004), Heterosexism in Contemporary World Religion: Problem and Prospect (The Pilgrim Press 2007), Sexuality and the Sacred: Sources for Theological Reflection, second edition (Westminster John Knox 2010), Making Love Just: Sexual Ethics for Perplexing Times (Fortress Press 2012).
