In this workshop, we will introduce the concept of social media: a set of free and popular tools for Internet publicity. We will focus primarily on how to publicize “real-life” events as well as how to participate in discussions and support causes on social media platforms. Topics will include:

-What is social media?

-What are the most popular social media platforms and how are they different from each other?

-How to make and share events and posts on Facebook

-How to optimize your reach on Facebook

-How to tweet (using Twitter)

-How to follow/unfollow on Facebook and Twitter

-What are hashtags?

Julia Wilk is the Head Tech at the Vermont Device Clinic in Hardwick, where she specializes in user education, tech support and hardware repair for smartphones and tablets. She is also a web designer at Word & Web, and when she's not working, she's usually playing roller derby.
