Presentation/Public Hearing on Vermont Gas Gate Station

Past event
Jan 8, 2018, 6 to 9:30 PM

On Monday, January 8, 2018 the Vermont Public Utilities Commission (PUC) will hold a mandated public hearing at the Fire House (3747 States Prison Hollow Road) regarding Vermont Gas Systems' application for authorization to build a Gate Station and distribution network in Monkton. The public hearing will be an opportunity for members of the public to provide comments to the PUC. The public hearing will begin at 7:00pm.

At 6pm, the Vermont Department of Public Service will host a presentation about the Gate Station by Vermont Gas. This presentation should provide a general overview of the proposed project and offer a chance to ask questions.

All Vermonters may attend the presentation (6 pm) and make public comments at the public hearing (7pm).

Vermont Gas proposes to build the Gate (regulator) Station at 282 Hollow Road (behind the Recreation Field). The proposed distribution system would run up Hollow Road to the intersection with Monkton-Vergennes RD. From there it it would go toward Vergennes on Monkton-Vergennes Road for several hundred feet; up Burrow Hill RD for a couple of hundred feet; north/northeast on Monkton RD to the school; down Pond RD to Rotax RD; west on Rotax RD for a few hundred feet; east on Rotax RD up to Silver ST; south on Silver ST to the stop sign; and down States Prison Hollow RD for a few hundred feet. If you live on any of these roads, your property may be impacted whether or not you want gas. If the project is approved, VGS would apparently not need easements to install distribution pipeline in the public right of way, which generally extends several feet into lawns along certain designated public roads. You may be able to get more information about this during the presentation, which begins at 6pm.

You can view most of the proposed project documents, including the territory map, construction plans, etc. on the Town website at: http://monktonvt.com/town-info/vermont-gas-project/ Scroll down to November 2017.

By statute, hard copies of the project petition and all exhibits and documents should also be available for review at the Town Office, which is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays.

Note: there is a bit of confusion about the subject of the presentation because the public notice talks about a solar project in St. Albans. However, this appears to be a clerical error. Recent guidelines provide for a presentation about each project before a public hearing on that project.

Note: the end time for the public hearing is approximate. The hearing officer usually announces how much time will be allowed for public comments at the beginning of each hearing.

You can contact the PUC with questions at: 838-2358 or puc.clerk@vermont.gov .
