New Skater Orientation - Southshire Roller Derby

Past event
Jan 7, 2018, 6 to 8 PM

I've been playing roller derby since I joined the Albany All Stars in 2007. It's been a rewarding part of my life helping me to travel to several different countries to play, coach, and announce.

In 2014, my best derby friend moved to Pownal from New Jersey and helped me start Southshire Roller Derby. We trained a few people that first year and started playing games in 2015.

Roller derby is fun for everyone! It's a great opportunity to get some exercise while also working at a team sport - which can really take your brain off of how much work it is. Plus everything is more fun on 8 wheels!

Here's the press release for our New Skater Orientation. Even if this is not for you, please share this with someone who might be interested in some fun and exercise and a pile of new friends from around the world:

Southshire Roller Derby is recruiting for the 2018 season

NORTH BENNINGTON>> Coming off the end of their third competition season, Southshire Roller Derby is holding the first adult recruitment night of 2018, Sunday, January 7 at 6 p.m., at 441 Water St., North Bennington second floor.

Southshire Roller Derby closed the 2018 season at 2-4, pulling together wins against Shoreline Roller Derby’s Belladonnas in September and the Mid-Hudson Misfits in August.

New Southshire Roller Derby President Terry Downey says: “We’re so excited and proud of the success we had this past season, and can’t wait to hit the track again this summer. We’re looking forward to meeting some new people both on the track and in the stands.”

Southshire needs new skaters, officials and volunteers age 18 and over. No skating experience is necessary as complete training from basic skate skills to advanced strategy is provided twice weekly year-round. Adults (over 18) of all genders are welcome. Attendees of recruitment night will have the opportunity to skate, so wear comfy clothes and bring some water.

RSVP to Southshirerollerderby@gmail.com with your shoe size to help with advance organization of loaner gear.

If you’d love the derby experience but aren’t sure that skating is for you, come on down anyway. There are plenty of very important ways to be part of the league without ever strapping on a pair of skates. If you have a child that is at least 6 years of age and under 18 who would like to try roller derby, please attend our Junior Skater orientation Tuesday, January 9 at 5pm.
