Christmas is over and the New Year is being rung in. Before the post-holiday doldrums settle in, come down to the Artist in Residence monthly “Meet the Artist Reception,” The date is January 4th; the time 4:30 -7pm and the place: The AIR Gallery, 10 South Main Street, downtown St. Albans. The featured artists for January are Arlene Jarvis, Michael Byers and Ann Levy. Hope to see you there.
Mike Byers of Black Tern Studio creates decorative concrete tables and household items polished to a silky smooth texture that invites one to touch. moving a hand across the smooth surface. The range of colors and textures is nearly limitless.
Arlene Jarvis is a new member of the gallery and makes the most exquisite beaded collars, necklaces and cuffs. Tiny seed beads are complemented by larger objects and stones; each piece is a miniature work of art.
Ann Levy, a weaver, is bridging the gap between art and craft using all manner of materials to make either functional cloth or more esoteric woven sculpture.Using wool and wool blends for snuggly warm shawls and shruggis and cotton and linen for household items, she then switches gears to use copper wire and all manner of found items for non-functional sculptural pieces.
