Christmas Eve Pageant

Located directly across from Lake Elmore, the Elmore United Methodist Church is the scene of a special event held every year on Christmas Eve, an event that draws people from across Lamoille County and beyond as they come to witness the re-enactment of The Christmas Story, narrated by the husband and wife team of Bruce and Kathy Wilder.

Members of the Vermont Philharmonic come from near and far to accompany the church's choir, which swells beyond its ranks for the occasion. It is a dramatic evening which features the voices of heavenly Angels, boisterous Shepherds, and regal Kings, all who bow down to worship the newborn Baby Jesus (born a few weeks ago to Elizabeth Johnson, who grew up in the Elmore Church's Sunday School).

Although the service begins at 6:00 PM, you must come early to secure your pew, since they are usually filled to capacity by 5:30 PM, as folks eagerly anticipate the sight of two live donkeys leading Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, where the only accommodation they can find is a manger scene crafted by Rick Loya, the set designer for the Lamoille County Players, the local theater company.

We encourage you to visit this humble church in the midst of a small closely-knit community in rural Vermont and include our service as part of your Christmas celebration.

Thank you for your consideration.
