Landlords: Free Essential Maintenance Practices Course

Past event
Dec 12, 2017, 12 to 4 PM

Are you a Vermont landlord who rents out a pre-1978 unit? The Health Department and Vermont Technical College are hosting a FREE Essential Maintenance Practices (EMPs) certification course next week in Newport. Any building built before 1978 is assumed to have lead-based paint, and lead-based paint is a major source of lead poisoning. In 2016, there were more than 600 Vermont children under six years old poisoned by lead.

EMPs are steps you must take to make sure the paint in your rental property is maintained and the unit is cleaned in a lead-safe way. It's also state law. Find out what you need to do to comply with the Vermont lead law, and learn more about the important role you play in preventing lead poisoning.
