Artists in Residence Reception

Past event
Dec 7, 2017, 4:30 to 7 PM

December is upon us and with it the pressure to find the perfect gifts for the people in our lives. The AIR Gallery at 10 South Main Street in St Albans, a co-operative of 40+ artists, offers a wide range of items from beautiful jewelry and utilitarian items that will add art to one’s daily life, to the paintings, photographs and prints that will remind you of how lovely the world around us is. Our monthly reception is this Thursday, December 7th fro 4:30 - 7 pm and will feature four of our members who will talk about their work, techniques and inspiration. Light refreshments will be served. Our four featured artists for December are:

Terry Rice- Painter, sculptor
Inspired by nature, beauty and emotions, Terry strives to convey these in her
work. She means to evoke memory, self reflection and play.
Her canvas of choice is often a battered piece of wood picked up on a beach
stroll. "They allow me to nail & wire & scrape & ding without worry "
Lakeshore finds of gnarly roots, rusty gems and lake glass may dangle from an
ear in her paintings. Her carvings are of cottonwood bark also found along the
shores of the Lake Champlain islands.

Deb Shell- potter
Clay has been a medium in which I am completely at home. Inspired by clay’s capacity to produce textures, shapes and utility, my work is a combination of all three. The capacity for clay to convey emotion pleases me, especially when considering the opportunity to create a piece such as mug or a teapot that will brighten someone’s day.

Sally Tarr- fiber artist
Sally has taken the art of felting to a higher level. Her work includes historic reproductions of the "penny rug" and works this format to make them more contemporary, and in other useful products. Sally also produces whimsical pictures made from appliqued felt.

Wayne Tarr-photographer
Wayne is a full-time photographer who enjoys photographing a variety of events, and portraits. His latest photography adventure is photographing dancers and models underwater.
Wayne has won numerous awards at the state, regional and national level. The highest awards he won are his 14 selections to the PPA Traveling Loan Collection, and these selections earned Wayne the PPA High Level of Excellence Award in 2015. He became a Certified Professional Photographer and earned his Master of Photography degree in 2006, and became a Photographic Craftsman in 2015.
