This Friday, December 8, at 7:00, the Israeli film “The Band’s Visit” will be shown at the Maple Corner Community Center. The bittersweet comedy tells the story of an Egyptian military band due for a concert in Israel; they take the wrong bus and are stranded in a remote village. According to Roger Ebert, "The Band’s Visit has not provided any of the narrative payoffs we might have expected, but has provided something more valuable: an interlude involving two “enemies,” Arabs and Israelis, that shows them both as only ordinary people with ordinary hopes, lives and disappointments. It has also shown us two souls with rare beauty." Rick Winston will introduce the film and lead a discussion afterwards.
