Past event
Dec 2, 2017, 10:30 AM to 12 PM

The VT Genealogy Library's final fall class is "Quebec Coroner's Inquests: A Unique Genealogical Resource".

The use of Coroner’s Inquests began in Quebec with the British conquest and continued up to the present. These documents often include much more than a simple cause of death and can provide genealogical clues unavailable anywhere else. In this talk Denyse Beaugrand-Champagne will discuss the introduction and development of these records over the past 250 years, the information one may find in them and how to locate them - both online and in repositories. These records may provide the key to one of your ancestor's identity so join us for a very informative talk by an entertaining speaker and well-known expert on Quebec family research.

Denyse Beaugrand-Champagne is Reference Archivist at the Montreal Branch of the Bibliotheque et Archives Nationales du Quebec (BanQ) and is the genealogical consultant for the Quebec version of the “Who Do You Think You Are” television program. She is also the award winning author of “Le Proces de Marie-Josephe Angelique“ an inquiry into a black slave accused of burning down parts of Montreal in 1734.

This lecture begins at 10:30 am at the VT Genealogy Library at Ft. Ethan Allen in Colchester. The class fee is $10, inculdes a handout and permits all-day research using our 4500 books and online subscription (Ancestry, FindMyPast & the best Qeubec databases).
