on Board Game Night - First One Jan. 5

Past event
Jan 5, 2014

Wow. I was take aback with all the kind neighbors that helped me find a “home” for board game nights. I'm also pleasantly surprised to find MORE folks interested in getting together and playing games. So, a very big THANK YOU goes out to those of you that responded and.or showed interest in games. I’m so excited to get this going for our community.

So good news: I have a place, a Facebook page and I'm ready to play--how about you? The evening may change based on the responses I get. However for now the first game night with be on Sunday, January 5th, at the Thatcher Brook School cafeteria. If anyone wants to pop in a bit early to help with set up--that would be awesome. In case you don’t have Face Book here is what’s on there:
We are a welcoming social gaming community seeking to provide space for everyone interested in casually playing board games. Games are euro-style board games (also called designer games) meaning there is very little chance to the games played, players usually compete for resources or points, all players stay in for the whole game, and conflict is indirect (very, very rarely do players directly battle). The duration of games vary, ranging from 2 hours to a half hour. Examples of the games that will be played are Ticket to Ride, Agricola, Ingenious, Carcassonne, Medici. All these can be found on GameBoardGeeks.com to give you an idea. Anyone over 16 is welcome, but all will be expected to behave like adults.

Guidelines:
As a casual social gaming group, our intent is for both the newcomer and the veteran gamer to have fun, which means being able to win and lose with some grace. It also means, being willing to include people regardless if you know them or not, or their gaming skill.

I would like to foster a learning environment so newcomers will not feel intimidated in trying something new.

Please keep debates over rules polite and under 10 minutes.

EVERYONE is welcome regardless of gaming activity, gender, race, or sexual orientation. Women in particular are encouraged to show up and try some games. As a woman myself, I know it’s harder to try something new if one is feeling judged.

I hope to see you there!
