Please join me for the closing reception of my art show at BSJ! There will be snacks, great conversation, and tons of affordable art available for sale. The show will be up until November 30th.
"Girlhood" is an autobiographical, narrative series of art pieces spanning a 20-year period, and following the path of a girl growing up in rural Vermont. The retrospective, created using a wide variety of styles and mediums including cloth, Bic pen, and acrylic paint, bushwhacks a guided tour through the artist's memories of coming of age--and coming out--amidst the strictly-gendered mores of an evangelical church. Beginning in the early 90's, the series follows one child as she struggles to grow, explore, and eventually reevaluate her own beliefs, sexuality, and gender into adulthood.
Kara Torres, who also operates under the name Fine Forager, is a Burlington-based artist best known for her intricate, cartoon-style black & white line drawings and her jewelry made from found objects.
