A number of congregations in northeast Franklin County are jointly planning a Community Thanksgiving Service to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. at Franklin United Church, 5414 Main St. in Franklin, a congregation that this year is celebrating its bicentennial.
The public is invited to attend the service, which will include traditional Thanksgiving hymns such as “We gather together” and “Come, ye thankful people, come.” Scriptures have been chosen to focus on the theme of giving thanks, and there will be special music and prayers of gratitude to God for the blessings of life.
An offering will be taken to benefit Turning Point of Franklin County, a St. Albans-based community center for people in recovery from alcohol and substance abuse and addiction. Attendees at the service are also encouraged to bring canned and boxed good for the Enosburg Food Shelf, the Richford Food Shelf, and the Montgomery Food Pantry.
Refreshments and fellowship will follow the service.
Congregations participating in the service include: Enosburg United Methodist Church, with Pastor John Bly; Franklin United Church and East Franklin Union Church, with Pastor Jason McConnell and Pastor Vaughn Edel; Richford First Baptist Church, with Pastor Tim Stetson; Abundant Life Fellowship, with Pastor Lyle Willey and Pastor Jaye Lundborg; Lighthouse Assembly of God, with Pastor Pat Hoadley; St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, with Pastor Titus Presler; Montgomery United Methodist Church, with Pastor Bonnie Hovermann; Grace Episcopal Church in Sheldon, with Pastor Janet Brown; and the six area Roman Catholic congregations: St. John the Baptist in Enosburg, All Saints’ in Richford, St. Anthony’s in Sheldon Springs, St. Mary’s in Franklin, St. Isidore’s in Montgomery, and Our Lady of Lourdes in East Berkshire, with Pastor Karl Hahr and Pastor Soosai Raj.
