...and how not to get food poisoning on Thanksgiving.

Coming up Thursday on Goddard College Community Radio - how local businesses are thriving in an age of internet commerce, and tips for a safe and sane Thanksgiving meal.

9:00 - 10:00 am
Stacy Mitchell and Olivia LaVecchia of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance just completed a Vermont tour on “Amazon’s Stealth Invasion of Vermont.” We’ve covered this before and will have more on this topic in an upcoming show. This week, LaVecchia will talk about newly unveiled results of a survey of over 850 independent retailers in 49 U.S. states, in which they describe how independent businesses are responding to the changing landscape — and about their advantages vis-à-vis retail chains and online retailers.

Thanksgiving is coming up, and it’s one of the biggest cooking days of the year. UVM Extension food safety specialist Omar Oyarzabal has tips on thawing and cooking that turkey safely, as well as a lot more. And in case you miss the program, or you want to check out more information, the USDA has a Meat and Poultry Hotline that will be open on Thanksgiving Day to help answer any and all Thanksgiving cooking questions. It's at 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854), on Thanksgiving Day from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. ET.
