Ekphrastic Poetry Reading (Poems in response to art)
When : Sunday, November 19 at 2:00 pm. (Gallery Opens at 1:00, reading begins at 2:00)
Where: Stone Valley Arts at Fox Hill, 145 E. Main Street, Poultney VT 05764

Poets have been invited to write poems inspired by one or more of the many works of art currently on display in the SVA gallery. Homage is an exciting exhibition of visual art in various mediums produced by SVA member artists. The reading will move around the gallery so that you can view each piece of art while listening to the poems. The works of art, the accompanying artist statements, and the poems will reveal some shared and also some unique insights into the artistic process and inspiration in both visual and literary arts.

Curator, Phil Whitman’s introduction to Homage: Many artists value originality in their work. However, even the most innovative and unique artworks arise from the influence of other artists. This curated exhibition seeks to explore the stylistic lineage embedded in the work of SVA member artists. We invited artists to submit work, in any media, that honors the work of an artistic predecessor. This might be the work of a world-famous historical artist or the work of a personal mentor. Photographs of these influential works will be displayed alongside each artist’s work, making the spirit of “homage” more visible.

This event is FREE and everyone is welcome!

Gallery opens at 1:00, so come early to view the works by SVA painters, sculptors, printmakers, and more!
