Hi all,
This Wednesday, November 15th from 10am - 1pm, the Montpelier Tree Board will be hosting a work day in Hubbard Park to remove invasives - Japanese barberry and honeysuckle. We will meet at the gate leading to the tower off of Corse Street. The ground isn't frozen yet, and those invasives still have their leaves/berries making it easy to spot them and get them out of the ground.
Please bring gloves (leather are best since barberry has thorns), a shovel or garden fork, and warm layers. We'll spend the first 10 minutes going over how to ID barberry and honeysuckle and answering any questions. If you are unable to work, but want an excuse to get into the park, please come for the intro!
It is important for the health of our City forest to keep invasives out and allow native species to spread in their place. For more information on other invasive species and/or why it is important to remove them, please visit: https://vtinvasives.org.
If you have any questions before the work day, don't hesitate to contact me at sarahhoffmeier@gmail.com or 802-522-5840. Also, the Tree Board has a vacancy, so this is a great opportunity to meet other members to see if joining our active and fun group is for you.
Thank you for supporting the Tree Board and Hubbard Park!
