The Valley Lions Club & Grace Cottage Hospital Provide Diabetes Awareness Program

The Valley Lions Club has partnered with Grace Cottage Hospital Wellness professionals to serve the community during the National Diabetes Awareness Month by offering a Diabetes Awareness Program on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 1 pm. The event will be held at the NewBrook Volunteer Fire & Rescue located at 698 VT RT 30, Newfane, VT. There is no charge for the event. The public is invited.

Diabetes contributes to more than 5 million deaths a year, making it the eighth-leading cause of death in the world. And the numbers are rising. The International Lions Club recognizes the epidemic each year on November 14 as “World Diabetes Day”. Fifty percent of the people who have diabetes don’t even know it.

According to Shelly Huber of The Valley Lions Club, “Our event is open to the public and will provide a time to learn about the International Lions Club efforts to bring diabetes awareness to the West River Valley communities through the assistance of Elizabeth Harrison C.C.N/Health Educator and Deborah Brown RN/Diabetes Educator. They will present a diabetes and nutrition program with question and answer sessions and literature to bring home to share with your family and friends during the holiday season.”

Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs. The International Lions Club celebrates their Centennial year as an organization in 2017. The Valley Lions Club was formed in 1968. The members meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 pm at the NewBrook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Community Room.
