Taking Your Genealogy from Quebec to France

Past event
Nov 11, 2017, 10:30 AM to 12 PM

In this class you will learn how to research your ancestors in France using the 95 online departmental archives. First we will locate the commune (town) that they lived in, and then how to search for baptisms, marriages and burials in either the Catholic churches or the Huguenot Temples. We will demonstrate some basic translation of the French to English. Since we typically are researching the people that populated New France (Quebec) we will focus on the period before the 1792 Revolution and its changes to record-keeping in France.

John Fisher helpfed found the VT French-Canadian Genealogical Society and is an expert in Quebec research. Please join John on Saturday and see the amazing information available to you online - often from your home computer. Classes are held at the Vermont Genealogy LIbrary at Fort Ethan Allen off RTE 15 in Colchester. They include a handout and the fee is $10.
