The main goal of the first meeting is to get in one place a group of people interested in being involved in the program, have a discussion and come to an agreement of what we want the NW program to look like for the town, and identify how to break up the town into neighborhoods/sections. With that last aim it gives us a way to see which areas have representation, and which areas we need to recruit a rep from.

With a core group established we can then build on that to have a rep from each neighborhood who can help with outreach and oversight in their area.

Once we have the initial meeting our idea was to host a meeting and training presentation at least each quarter where we can provide training on issues relevant to neighborhood watch. This will draw in people as there is no commitment just a chance to learn something that will help better protect them and their families.

Some topics we have discussed for these trainings/presentations:
• Situational Awareness and Just Don’t Look Right/Just Don’t Feel Right
• How to make your home a “hard target”
• Basic First Aid
• Developing a Home Defense/Escape Plan
• What should be reported and to who
• Working with your neighbors to develop a mutual overwatch plan for each others homes

The thought would be to reach out to other individuals/entities/orgs that can provide an instructor/presenter for more topics related to personal and home safety.

We would also encourage input from attendees on what is important to them, what information they would like, and what they would like to learn.

We want to transition from just having the Sheriff's Department come and give a presentation then everyone goes home and ceases involvement. We would like to have an ongoing semi formal program directed by a core group that is diverse in backgrounds, opinions, approaches, skills and geography that represents the town as a whole so everyone can feel that this is a program they are welcome in no matter what.
