This Friday, November 10, at 7:00, “Mississippi Masala” with Denzel Washington will begin a five-film series at the Maple Corner Community Center, with films the second Friday of each month. Mira Nair’s 1992 cross-cultural romantic comedy is set in Greenwood, Mississippi, and vividly dramatizes the uncertain love affair of Mina (Sarita Choudhry), a spirited young Indian, the daughter of parents in exile from Idi Amin’s Uganda, and Demetrius, a conscientious, upwardly mobile black American who has never seen Africa. Rick Winston will introduce the film and lead a discussion afterwards; admission is by donation.
