What’s Happening at Dutch Hill? Skiing is Returning! New Life for an Old Ski Area
Come to a public information meeting at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, Nov 14, at the Readsboro Central School to learn about what’s happening at the former Dutch Hill Ski Area in Readsboro, VT.It went out of business in the 1980’s and is now part of the Green Mountain National Forest.Last fall the Forest Service finalized their South of Route 9 management plan, which identified Dutch Hill as a site for non-motorized winter recreation. At the meeting, a local historian will present a brief history of Dutch Hill and Forest Service reps will present information about recreation, timber harvest, and wildlife support plans for the Dutch Hill area.DHASH (Dutch Hill Alliance of Skiers and Hikers), a non-profit group of volunteers, will tell about how they are working with the Forest Service to clear some of the overgrown ski slopes for backcountry skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, and sledding. No, there won't be any ski lifts coming back, but the slopes will be cleared and free to ski or sled for anybody willing to climb them using muscle power.
