On December 18th, Vermont Commons School (VCS) will be screening The Opiate Effect, as a part of the ongoing VCS Documentary Film Series.
Will Gates died from a heroin overdose in 2009. His father, Skip needed a way to deal with this tragedy. As a math teacher, he took early retirement to tour schools and educate as many people as possible of the harm in not only the drug, but how we are dealing with the problem in society.
The Panel Discussion for this film will be moderated by Martha Maksym, Executive Director of the United Way of Chittenden County, including Skip Gates, father of Will Gates, and Tristan Coffin, U.S. District Attorney and prosecutor of the dealer who sold Will the narcotics, and Trevor Whipple, Chief of Police for South Burlington.
This event is sponsored by Vermont Commons School and the United Way of Chittenden County.
Location: Vermont Commons School, 75 Green Mountain Drive, South Burlington. 7 p.m. Wed. 12/18
