Description: Stone Valley Arts and the Vermont Dance Alliance are hosting a contemporary Dance Workshop on Saturday Nov. 4th. We look forward to an exciting day of diverse contemporary dance technique and style classes with five master teachers. SVA and VDA join together to expand dance awareness and strengthen the dance community in Vermont.
9:30 – 10:45 am Beginner Turkish Style Belly Dance: with Yvonne Brunot
Always wanted to get to some of the “roots” of belly dance in America? Come explore Danse Oriental, or Turkish Style belly dance and become acquainted with its unique charms and distinctive musical qualities. Danse Oriental can be visually compelling: playful and vivacious but also fiery and assertive. This class will focus on some of the basic body isolations, movements and musical rhythms that are featured elements of Danse Orientale. By the end of class, participants will have a basic knowledge base to build on for continued study of this style.
11:00 am -12:15 pm Contemporary Dance Fusion with Paula Higa
This class aims to awake the body to move within tempo, space, and rhythm. The class is built from technical exercises based on principles of early modern technique integrating corporal and musical knowledge present in our culture. If you like to move with great flow, challenging your own limits, and to the sound of upbeat music, you shouldn’t miss this class!
1:15 – 2:30 pm Bollywood Dance Gina Mammone Deibel
Bollywood is all about dance that is bold, dramatic and fun. The music is ultra high-energy and participants are encouraged to smile, express themselves and unleash the movie star within! Inspired by the musical films of India, Bollywood dance is a dynamic blend of East and West, incorporating movements and influences as diverse as classical Indian dance, Bhangra and other South Asian folk traditions, jazz, hip-hop, Afro-Caribbean, and Arabic dance. Following an energetic full-body warmup, students will explore key elements of the style including foot rhythms, hand gestures (mudras), and expressive movement. Putting these pieces together, participants will learn a dance sequence adapted from a Bollywood film. It’s a non-stop Bollywood dance party! Be sure to bring a pair of clean sneakers and a water bottle.
2:45 – 4 :00 pmTechnique, Improvisation & Composition Masterclass with Hanna Satterlee
Come enjoy a collective group experience of training and evolving physically- through use of classic contemporary dance technique, fused with improvisation, composition and play.
4:15 – 5:30 pm “Soul Training” Contemporary Dance fused w/ urban dances. w/ Eugenia Silveira Chirimini
Special emphasis in promoting physical workout and choreographic narrative in response to a Dj-LiveSet playing instrumental music, which fuses different styles such as Hip-Hop, House, Afro-house and Funk. As the variety of different rhythms may prompt different moods, these moods can consequently vehicle to talk about different emotions and feeling. To that extent, Soul Training establishes nurturing be a environments where dancers –amateurs and professionals- will have the chance to dig, understand and discover new techniques in direct response to their sensations and passions triggered by different musical exposures. Soul Training touches its participants not only in a physical level, but reaching the inner self of each individual from head to toes, in and out.
