Raise Awareness About Hunger and Take the 3SquaresVT Challenge
This November 12th through 18th, as part of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, Hunger Free Vermont invites you to build awareness about food insecurity by taking the 3SquaresVT Challenge. The 3SquaresVT Challenge seeks to highlight what it is like to eat on the average 3SquaresVT benefit, approximately $37 a week, $5.29 a day, or $1.76 a meal for a single person (amount varies by household size).
Hunger in our state is both wide-reaching and complex, with 1 in 10 Vermonters struggling to afford enough food, and Nearly 78,000 Vermonters receiving 3SquaresVT benefits. The purpose of the Challenge is not to emulate the reality of food insecurity for Vermonters, because every family’s situation is different, but to instead draw attention to the experience of living on a strict food budget and how that may or may not change your daily life both physically and mentally.
