Stone Valley Arts Literary Open Mic will be held Friday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Stone Valley Arts at Fox Hill, (stone church across from Poultney High School). Poets, Storytellers, Spoken Word Artists in all genres are invited to perform your own original poems, slam pieces, classics, or other favorites. Several of our presenters have recently published new books including material they previewed at SVA Open Mic! Come to perform, or just to be entertained, and bring a friend. Poets, you are invited to participate in an Ekphrastic poetry event! Write a poem inspired by a work of art. Choose a work on display in the HOMAGE exhibit at Stone Valley Arts and write a poem responding to that particular work of art. Your response to the art may include vivid description, commentary, imaginative leaps such as creating narrative or dialogue, giving voice to the subject, or even to the artist. A public reading will take place in the SVA Gallery on Sunday afternoon, November 19.

Curator, Phil Whitman’s introduction to Homage: Many artists value originality in their work. However, even the most innovative and unique artworks arise from the influence of other artists. This curated exhibition seeks to explore the stylistic lineage embedded in the work of SVA member artists. We invited artists to submit work, in any media, that honors the work of an artistic predecessor. This might be the work of a world-famous historical artist or the work of a personal mentor. Photographs of these influential works will be displayed alongside each artist’s work, making the spirit of “homage” more visible.
