Vermont Alliance for Retired Americans to hold Annual Conference October 28“From Expensive to Affordable: Vermont’s Health Care Future,”
The 13th annual conference of the VARA, will be held Saturday, October 28, at the Montpelier Senior Activity Center beginning at 8:30 am with coffee and registration.
The main part of the program will be an overview of proposed legislation to provide Universal Publicly Financed Primary Care for All Vermonters with Dr. Deb Richter and Paul Cillo of Vermont’s Public Access Institute. A panel addressing the prospects for achieving Primary Care for All in 2018, will include State Senator Debbie Ingram, Director of Vermont Interfaith Action; Jill Charbonneau, President of the Vermont AFL-CIO; James Haslam, Director of Rights and Democracy; and Peter Youngbaer, Director of the People’s Health & Wellness Clinic.
Over lunch, participants will discuss strategies for building support for Primary Care for All led by John Poeton, then view the Canadian/American film “The Health Care Movie” followed by discussion.
There will be an update on Sen. Sanders’ Medicare for All national health insurance program legislation by Sheila Reed.
The conference ends at 2 pm. Registration for the conference, including morning coffee and VARA membership, is $15 ($20 for two). Lunch is $10.
