Red Ribbon Week 2017: Your Future Is Key, So Stay Drug Free!

October 21, 2017, Lyndon Center. The St. Johnsbury Academy/Lyndon Institute rivalry football game falls on October 21st, and the travel-filled holiday season is not long afterward. National Family Partnership’s National Red Ribbon Campaign is an opportune time to remind youth and adults alike of the dangers associated with driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, driving distracted, and not wearing a seatbelt. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon campaign aims to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. As fall slowly transitions into the busy winter season, we hope everyone will take this message to heart and help promote awareness around the importance of safe driving to protect everyone in our community today and every day! Red ribbons (and an explanation) will be placed on windshields of cars parked at the St. Johnsbury Academy/Lyndon Institute rivalry football game on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Drivers are asked to tie the red ribbons to their side view mirrors to show their support of this very important message.

In addition to Saturday’s activities, Lyndon Institute, St. Johnsbury Academy, Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, and the Vermont Department of Health are collaborating with local car dealerships to promote Red Ribbon Week’s safe driving message. Many local car dealerships in the Lyndonville and St. Johnsbury area have agreed to fly red balloons from October 20th-October 31st in support of this message which includes always wearing a seatbelt, hands free phone use, and not driving while impaired.
