Performance Art as Public Art: Convergence of Community

Past event
Nov 6, 2017, 5:30 to 7:30 PM

This is the final event in the Montpelier ArtSynergy Project's November series of community gatherings that are designed to capture ideas about how we want public art to live in Montpelier.

"Performance Art as Public Art: Convergence of Community" will take place at Lost Nation Theater from 5:30-7:30 on November 6th, featuring master mime and clown Rob Mermin, Lost Nation Theater Founding Artistic Director Kim Bent, and dance artist Alana Phinney.

Participants will engage in short creative activities in mime, theater and dance that will help shape the evening's dialogue about how performance art as public art can help make Montpelier a more vibrant community.

Dinner will be served during the final discussion section of the evening. The event is free and limited to 30 participants, with reservations required through Eventbrite at http://bit.ly/2kZSx7W, or by calling the Community Engagement Lab at 802-595-0087.

ABOUT MONTEPLIER ARTSYNERGY
The ArtSynergy Project will develop a Public Art Master Plan that will articulate goals, identify resources and propose prioritized strategies, timelines and cost estimates for the funding, placement, creation and maintenance of public art in Montpelier, with a focus on the Downtown. The Public Art Master Plan will develop a public art strategy that connects future design and cultural initiatives for greater community and economic development. The community-wide planning process will include small focus groups, individual interviews, and large community exercises. The Montpelier ArtSynergy Project will culminate with the installation of the first major city-funded public art work at 1 Taylor Street, the site of the new transit center and apartments. This commissioned piece will celebrate the community’s work at developing the Public Art Master Plan and the adoption of the plan as a central component of city planning.
