Have you ever been curious about what goes into the making of a film or wonder why certain older films are considered classics? This winter, Rick Winston, former co-owner of Montpelier’s Savoy Theater, will present a series of three Film Appreciation seminars in Hardwick. Using the work of American, European and Asian directors as examples, Rick will present an inside view of the film-making process and an introduction to basic film vocabulary that will help sharpen our understanding of what is happening when we experience a film. The participants will see many clips from both American and foreign films, from the silent era to the present.
Rick has recently been teaching film history at Burlington College, Community College of Vermont, and the Montpelier Senior Activity Center. He has also been curating film series at the Chandler Music Hall in Randolph, the Jaquith Library in Marshfield, and the Maple Corner Community Center. The Hardwick venue is yet to be finalized. The dates will be Wednesday, January 22; Wednesday, February 19; and Wednesday, March 12, all at 6:30 PM. The cost is $40 per session or $100 for all three. Space is limited; for more information or to reserve enrollment, contact Rick at 454-7103 or at
