ACLU People Power members in the NEK:
Many of us are concerned about the growing visibility of white supremacist activity in our country, and hate incidents in our own backyard -- racist graffiti sprayed on a barn in Orleans County, threats made toward students of color at UVM and violence against a young boy in Claremont, New Hampshire.
If you want to do something about it but aren’t sure what actions to take, who to talk to or how to make a difference, you’re not alone!
On October 28th, from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Barton Public Library in Orleans County, the ACLU of Vermont is offering a community meeting for those who share concerns about racism, and hate violence; and want to talk with others about what can be done.
At this meeting you’ll have a chance to:
meet other people in your area who are interested in or already taking action against racism and defending civil rights;
talk through options, ideas and challenges with addressing these issues in your area;
hear from the ACLU about our current work and how you can plug in with us and other groups working for racial justice.
The Barton Public Library is located at 100 Church Street, Barton, VT. This event is free and all are welcome to attend. To RSVP or if you have questions, please contact Nico Amador namador@acluvt.org. Can’t make it but want to be kept in the loop? Let us know and we can keep in touch with you about next steps.
This event is part of the ACLU’s People Power Program and being put on in partnership with the ACLU of Vermont and local residents.
