Dear Artist Friends and Neighbors,
Hopefully you have been following updates on the happenings on the Clemmons Family Farm. We are moving forward with some exciting planning to develop art and culture programs here. While our emphasis is the African diaspora (African, African American, Cuban, Brazilian, Haitian, etc.), we also want to foster opportunities for multicultural creative work and exchange among artists of ALL races, ethnicities and backgrounds through programs on the Farm. We have previously shared a video overview about some of our art and culture program ideas through Front Porch Forum. The video is also on our Facebook page, website and youtube channel, but knowing that you may well have missed seeing this, here it is again just in case: https://youtu.be/Wdhtwm9v7sE Please also check out our plans for the Farm here: http://www.clemmonsfamilyfarm.org/our-plans-for-the-center.html
Now it is time for us to extend the brainstorming to include YOU- a community of a brilliant, talented and surprisingly diverse group of artists: painters, photographers, needle workers (embroidery, knitting, quilts, sewing), sculptors, woodworkers, metal workers, environmental artists, actors, singers, composers, dancers, choreographers, musicians, poets, novelists, culinary artists, and many others. We would like to invite you to a community gathering and brainstorm meeting of local artists at the historic Barn House on Sunday October 29 from 1:30 - 3:30 pm. At the meeting, we will naturally start with a tour of the Barn House, a bit of the story of how Jack Clemmons built it, and check out the art and photography exhibits in the Barn House. Our family will also share more of our ideas for arts and culture programs at the Farm that celebrate our parents' legacy of bringing multicultural arts and culture to this beautiful, magical place since the 1960's. Then we will turn it over to you for your reactions, suggestions, and new ideas to help us start programming for next year.
We also just want to offer an opportunity for folks to get to know one another, so this first meeting is not going to be a terribly formal meeting- there will be more meetings next year as we move forward in the planning process. We'll provide some refreshments and encourage you to come with some as well so that we can nibble, sip and gab.
This is a preliminary announcement so that you can start marking your calendars. We will post a second announcement later this week with a sign-up page for attendance. Our goal is to make the Clemmons Family Farm a real asset to our community, and art and artists of all races, ethnicities and backgrounds are an important part of our plans.
We can't wait to spend a bit of quality time together and start brainstorming with you!
With love,
Lydia, Lydia and Jack
