Help Reduce Opiate Misuse and keep kids safe by participating in National Prescription Drug TAKE BACK DAY Saturday, October 28th from 10 am to 2 pm. Prescription medications should not be lingering in your medicine cabinet, flushed down the toilet, or tossed into the landfill. Safely dispose of old prescriptions by dropping them off at these 7 collection sites in Washington County:

Montpelier Police Department behind City Hall
Barre City Police Department
Northfield Police Department
Vermont State Police in Middlesex
Kinney Drugs on the Barre-Montpelier Road, supported by Berlin Police Department
Kinney Drugs in Waterbury

Unused prescription medications can be misused by others, as well as being harmful to kids and pets. When improperly disposed of, pharmaceuticals can damage septic systems and contaminate Vermont's lakes and streams. According to the Vermont Department of Health, two-thirds of teenagers who reported abusing prescription drugs, say they are getting them from family members, home or friends and acquaintances. Safely disposing of old medications can help to eliminate any of these outcomes.
We hope to see you at one of the TAKE BACK DAY locations on October 28, but medication disposal needs to be addressed more than twice a year. Fortunately, the Montpelier Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Northfield Police Department and Barre City Police Department have permanent drop boxes for year round disposal.
