Relocalizing VT: the Bliss of Wood Heat & More

Past event
Oct 19, 2017, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up Thursday on Goddard College Community Radio - wood heat as economic development, climate change reducer, and coziness on a winter night. Plus why small-scale businesses can add up to a large-scale movement towards a new economic vision.

9:00 - 10:00 am
Emma Hanson is the first person in a newly created position of Wood Energy Coordinator at the Vermont Department of Forest and Parks. She’s promoting wood heat throughout the state. Maura Adams will also join the conversation; she’s at the Northern Forest Center, where they are promoting pellets as a way to increase the market for our region’s low-grade wood. They have some hard numbers about the effects of pellets in reducing climate change.

David Bollier returns to the program to talk about why co-ops, regional currencies, and hackerspaces are pointing the way toward a new economic vision. You can read some of his thoughts in the area in an acclaimed recent article in The Nation magazine: "To Find Alternatives to Capitalism, Think Small"

10:00 - 10:30 am
