Oct 25, 2017, 6:30 AM to 8:30 PM

The Mayor's Office and the Burlington Police Department, in conjunction with the State of Vermont and the Chittenden County Opioid Alliance, will be hosting a community conversation about the opioid crisis on Wednesday, October 25th, at the UVM Davis Center. All are welcome.

The meeting will feature a highly personal story of addiction and recovery told by David Poses, the former next door neighbor of our chief of police from his time in the Hudson Valley. David's story shows that addiction can truly strike anyone, and that recovery is a lifelong process. He will read from his upcoming on the topic, The Kick, and be available to answer questions form the perspective of lived experience.

After David, we'll hear from Dr. Jessica Hauser, a practitioner with an extensive background in delivering prevention techniques and curricula to teenage audiences. Parents who are struggling with how to best talk about the threat of opioids with adolescent children will find her insights useful.

Jolinda LaClair, Vermont's Director of Drug Prevention Policy, will also be on hand to talk about the state's legislative strategy to combat the crisis and to answer questions on behalf of the state.

Refreshments will be served.

We're looking forward to seeing you.
