Leslie Parke to speak at the Canfield Gallery

"Pairings" will be the topic by noted artist Leslie Parke on Tuesday, October 17, at 6:00 p.m.
A while ago artist Leslie Parke started sharing images of artwork next to each other on Facebook. She called these posts “pairings.” For Parke it was a way to experience very disparate works of art that have something in common, and others that looked almost identical, but carry completely different meanings. What she found out in this process is that others liked these “pairings” and the thoughts that the pairings provoked for them. Lots of people have trouble engaging with certain pieces of art, and more specifically contemporary art. But Parke discovered that having specific things to compare between two pieces of art, gave them a road in, a way to start looking at a piece and ask interesting questions about what they were seeing.
Starting from this premise of "pairings," Parke will share some of the findings she's made by "just looking," and how visual clues have led her to discoveries often overlooked when one just reads the labels.
