Good morning,
When caucus time arrived in mid-September Bolton did not have its Democratic Town Committee organized. With the help of Democratic Representative Marcia Gardner (Chittenden-1, Richmond), and Waterbury Democratic Town Committee Chair Liz Schlegel Stevens, Bolton has the opportunity to re-form its Democratic Town Committee on Sunday, October 15, 2017, from 2pm to 4pm, at the Smilie Memorial Elementary School, in either a classroom or the library.
The initial notices I posted had the meeting in the cafeteria, but it turns out the cafeteria is being used on Sunday. The school’s secretary telephoned me a few hours after I filled out the application with the help of the acting secretary (who turned out to be the custodian, and who hadn’t known all the school’s scheduling details or procedures), so I re-applied to use an available room and re-posted notices. Official approval won’t be until this morning (10/10/17) as the principal was not in yesterday — though the secretary thought it would be fine. If for some reason the application is not approved by the principal, I’ll re-apply, reschedule and re-post here.
Assuming at least three (3) of us show up, during this meeting Bolton Democrats will:
1. elect the Town Committee;
2. then the Town Committee will elect Officers;
3. then we'll elect County Committee Members; and,
4. conduct new business.
I’m hoping someone more experienced — Liz from Waterbury or a current Bolton Democrat — will help guide the process, as I’m only the interim organizer and my family and I are new to Bolton.
Update: Application to use the library was approved by Smilie's Principal, Barbara Tomasi-Gay, at 8:20am today. Thanks go to her and the school's secretary Sherry Mahoney, for helping us to use the space!
