"Connecting Through Nature - Two Artists' Views" is the October show in the Canfield Gallery. Both artists, Ellen Questel and Dona Mara, share a love of nature that drives their work, though their styles are quite different. Questel's paintings are sensuous but realistic. "My goal," she says, "is to find a way to translate into line and color the powerful feelings evoked in me by the landscape." She loves the color and luminosity of pastels, but also enjoys the surprise play of materials when she works with mixed media. Dona Mara's paintings are a more abstracted version of nature, and reveal an individual choice of color, line and texture that stems from her personal connection to nature. "Often a painting begins as I glimpse a particular textural field through a screened or rainy window," Mara says.
Join the artists at a reception on Saturday, October 7 from 3 to 5 in the Library's Canfield Gallery. The exhibit will run from October 7 through October 31. For more information, call the Library at 375-6153 or visit our website: marthacanfieldlibrary.org
