What's Up with the Forest Birds?

Past event
Oct 11, 2017, 6:30 to 7:30 PM

If you've noticed that there seems to be less bird song than there used to be you are correct! Bird populations have diminished due to many factors including pesticide and herbicide use, forest fragmentation and parcelization, climate change and invasive species. Steve Faccio, Conservation Biologist with the Vermont Center for Ecostudies will be speaking at the Waterbury Public Library, Wednesday evening, October 11th from 6:30-7:30 about this disturbing trend. Faccio will share the results of a 25 year study, the longest running study of Vermont forest bird monitorization, "The Status of Vermont Birds" which he authored. Some of the birds are the iconic warblers and woodpeckers. Others, even more alarmingly with up to a 45% decrease, are the aerial insectivores, which should give us all pause. Come to the library to hear about the fascinating study and come away with the knowledge of constructive changes you can make.
