Cornwall Clayplain Forest Walk

Past event
Oct 15, 2017, 1:30 to 3:30 PM

The Cornwall Conservation Commission is sponsoring a guided walk led by conservation ecologist, Marc Lapin, in one of Cornwall’s finest examples of a Valley Clayplain Forest natural community . This hemlock-hardwood forest abuts a rich wetland complex, all part of the Beaver Brook watershed, a major tributary of the Lemon Fair River.

Participants will have an opportunity to learn about the site’s plants and soils and investigate the principles of landscape connectivity. Clayplain Forests, once common across the Champlain Valley, are now rare and listed as “threatened” in Vermont.

There is parking close to the forest site. Take Rte 125 to Foote Farm Road, turn onto FFR, and then left again on Beaver Pond Road (approx. 700 ft). Vehicles can be parked along the circle at the end of Beaver Pond Road. Please, no dogs.

Marc Lapin is an Environmental Studies Laboratory Professor at Middlebury College. For more information, contact Mary Dodge at mdodge@middlebbury.edu (462-2899)
