"I Can't Do This but I Can Do That: A Film for Families About Learning Differences."
The HBO Family documentary "I Can't Do This but I Can Do That: A Film for Families About Learning Differences," is an inspiring account of children with LDs who have discovered real abilities, and have learned to use their strengths to overcome their learning struggles. It will be shown at the Jeudevine Memorial Library and will be followed by a discussion led by Brad Smith, Director of the Vermont Learning-Support Initiative, a Hardwick-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping diverse learners who aspire to college.
An estimated one in five school children today have learning and attention challenges of some kind. These differences are not limited to kids, and they generally do not “go away.” They decisively impact an individual’s learning, social life and sense of self. Too often, kids living with these issues are stigmatized in school and in society—with lifelong consequences. This film and discussion seeks to improve how learners who think differently are perceived and understood.
