"Migration," an immersive film about the lives of Mongolia’s reindeer herders will be shownat the Memorial Building (the Hardwick Town Office Building) in Hardwick and will be followed by a Q&A with the director, Sas Carey! The film immerses the viewer in the arduous journey Dukha reindeer herders embark on each year traveling through Mongolia’s pristine wilderness to reach their summer encampment. To the Dukha, reindeer are the core of their existence. They are ridden, packed with goods, milked, and (when needed) honored and sacrificed for food.
"Migration" travels with the nomads in their annual journey from their spring camp in the taiga forest to their summer camp in the tundra in order to provide rich pasture for the reindeer. This experiential film preserves the unique lives and lifestyles of reindeer herders just as they exist today. “I really enjoyed the great audience at Jeudevine last time when I showed Ceremony and look forward to it again," says director Sas Carey, “when people in US can meet the Dukha reindeer herders and witness their life which honors the earth.” Carey is also the director of Nomadicare, a non-profit that supports the sustainability and cultural survival of nomadic peoples in Mongolia by harmonizing traditional and modern medicine and documenting nomadic life ways, lore, and heart songs.
