Steps Towards Reproductive Justice: A Middlebury 5km on Sunday, October 8th, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at Axinn Center, Middlebury College.
Chellis House, Middlebury College’s women’s resource center, is sponsoring the second annual Steps Towards Reproductive Justice: A Middlebury 5K. Participants may run, walk, or skip around the golf course while educating themselves about the subject.
What is reproductive justice you may ask? It is a movement that advocates for people to have the right to have kids, not have kids, and to have the resources to raise their kids safely and free from oppression and shame. Reproductive justice centers on marginalized groups and emphasizes the effects of lack of access to resources, which impacts many women’s reproductive decisions. Eliminating racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, classism—these are all reproductive justice issues.
The event is FREE and open to all—Middlebury students, faculty, staff, and community members. There will be snacks offered at the finish, as well as the opportunity to tie-dye T-Shirts (for the first 40 people to arrive the morning of the 5k) and a free raffle!
