It is with great joy that WORDS OUT LOUD presents Greg Delanty and Madeleine May Kunin, two very accomplished individuals reading from their poetry on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at 3:00 at the Old West Church, followed by a reception within the REFUGE exhibit down the road in the Kent Museum among the Art at the Kent exhibit, REFUGE.
Greg Delanty, a professor and Poet-in-Residence at St. Michael's College, was born in Ireland and has lived in Vermont for more than 30 years. The author of numerous books and a recipient of many prizes, including a Guggenheim for poetry, Delanty, in addition to dedicating himself to poetry, has long been an activist--participating in vigils, demonstrations, civil disobedience, 350-Vermont, and more. His book "So Little Time: Words and Images for a World in Climate Crisis," demonstrates his keen insight in both realms.
Madeleine May Kunin was the first female governor of Vermont. As a strong leader in politics, she has held many roles, on top of which she is a James Marsh Professor at UVM and a commentator for VPR. Most recently she founded EMERGE VERMONT, an organization which trains women to run for public office. In 2018 Green Writers Press will publish her book "Coming of Age: My Journey into the Eighties." What's more, she writes poetry. Having heard her read her poems for PoemTown Randolph in April, as this year's WORDS OUT LOUD curators, Allyson Evans and I extended an invitation to her to read here in Calais at the Old West Church. And she accepted!
Please join us this Sunday at 3:00 for the final pair of WORDS OUT LOUD readings at the Old West Church this Fall.
