Our next school board meeting is Monday October 2nd, 6:30 PM at Browns River Middle School. We will begin with a facilities tour highlighting the new parking lot, and receive brief reports from the principal and MMU student representatives before community comments.
The board will ratify the tentative two year agreement with teachers (2017-2019). Highlights include 3% salary increase each year and increase in health care premium co-pay from 15% to 20% over two years. The Board appreciates the collaborative approach taken by the teacher representatives throughout the negotiation process.
We will discuss and may take positions on resolutions to be voted on at the annual Vermont School Board Association meeting in October. The Superintendent will present a Policy Governance compliance report on Executive Constraints. By adopting Policy Governance the board provides strong guidance and support to enable the Superintendent to manage the district, allowing the board to focus on ends (goals) and community engagement. The board has retained direct responsibility for negotiations and finance. We will also discuss changes to policy and procedure as well as to our policy website.
Our next planned meeting is October 16th at 6:30 at Camels Hump MIddle School.
The Mount Mansfield Modified Union School Board and Chittenden East Supervisory Union Governing Board conventionally have joint meetings, generally the first and/or third Mondays of each month. MMMUSD includes Mount Mansfield Union High, Browns River Middle, Camel’s Hump Middle, Jericho Elementary, Richmond Elementary, Smilie Memorial (Bolton), Underhill Central, and Underhill I.D. schools. CESU includes Special Education, Transportation, and Central Office for both MMMUSD and the Huntington elementary school. The Brewster Pierce Memorial School Board (Huntington) meets separately.
