Free Backyard Composting Workshop Sept. 30

Past event
Sep 30, 2017, 10 AM to 12 PM

The Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District is holding its last backyard composting workshop of 2017 on Saturday, September 30, 10 am - noon at the Garden at 485 Elm in Montpelier.
Whether you’re getting ready to start composting for the first time, or you have years of experience, this workshop will provide tips and ideas for both the newbie and the veteran composters. We will be teaching you how to set up new compost systems, how to make it simple and convenient, ways to minimize odors and pests, and we may even demo how to build an inexpensive compost bin. We’ll talk about Vermont’s Universal Recycling Law, and how the landfill ban on organics relates to you.

Thanks to a grant from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, Soil Saver compost bins will be on-hand for sale at half off our regular whole-sale rate. Everyone will go home with a free pail for kitchen food scrap collection and “The Dirt on Composting,” a guide to many different ways to compost. Green Cone solar digesters will also be on site for purchase at our wholesale, bulk-rate price.
