Coming up Thursday on Goddard College Community Radio: Communities are more resilient when everyone feels they’re getting a fair shake. This week we examine two issues in the news from a standpoint of resilience: free speech, and racial disparities in the justice system
9:00 - 10:00 am
Freedom of speech is guaranteed to everyone in the U.S. But it’s easier for some groups than others to excercise their speech rights. We’ll hear how that happens, why it’s a problem, and what can be and is being done about it. Guests will be Goddard College sociologist and creative writer Herukhuti plus James Duff Lyall, executive director of the Vermont chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.
Also in the racial justice system, some groups are protected and served more than others. Vermont has been wrestling with understanding what racial discrimination in policing and the rest of the justice system looks like. Christine Longmore serves as chair of a state panel addressing racial disparities in Vermont justice, and Herukhuti will continue in the conversation.
10:00 - 10:30 am
Resilience Thoughts, a locally told Extempo story, plus upcoming events related to energy, food, and the local economy at the end of the age of oil.
