"Well, this is all for now...so good-bye" Letters, Writings, and Poetry from Veterans Event is happening this Friday, September 15 at 6:30pm at Stone Valley Arts Center (145 East Main Street, Poultney, VT.)
The evening will serve as a reflection of the letter-writing and poetry of the WWI-era and beyond. SVM Executive Director Krista Rupe will begin the evening by sharing poetry from WWI soldiers.
David Mook will give a brief presentation on two Vermont women, Sarah Cleghorn and Dorothy Canfield Fisher, who were both important writers and activists during WWI. To mark the WWI centenary, The Poetry Foundation put together a sampling of poems written by both soldiers and civilians, showcasing the poets who served and volunteered in World War I. He will talk about this collection and read one or two of those poems.
Featured presenter Bill Wunder will read from his book Pointing at the Moon, a book of profound humanity, teeming with the mundane and horrific in the author's first-hand portrait of the Vietnam War. In these powerful poems, history and memory stand on equal ground.
Vets are encouraged to come and participate in the discussion and share your poems and stories too!
The event is free and light refreshments will be served.
