Music, Hike and Movie This Coming Week at Brookfield OTH

Past event
Sep 23, 2017, 7 to 9 PM

Join us Saturday Sept. 23 at 7pm for the combined harmonies and guitars of Bennett & Perkins. Kathy Bennett and Thom Perkins perform songs with stories and music inspired by everyday lives, lost loves, lost lives and real-life adventure, coupled with haunting harmonies and memorable arrangement of vocals and guitar.

Thom Perkins' guitar work has been compared to Richard Thompson and Bruce Cockburn - you'll swear he has more than 10 fingers once you hear him play. Kathy Bennett has "a voice that can crack sheet rock" with vocals likened to Lucinda Williams, Bonnie Raitt and Emmy Lou Harris all rolled into one. They’re a powerhouse of folk sure to resonate on both a physical and emotional level.
As an additional treat, the performance will be followed by a “music circle.” Bring an instrument and share a song in an informal jam session. Pass the word to anyone you know who has a portable instrument to join in. This is sure to be a night of music to remember!

Their music is a regular feature on New Hampshire Public Radio Folk Show and Maine’s folk radio standard WERU. They have performed on the stages of Medallion Opera House, Acoustic Artisans, The Cold River Radio Show, Ossipee Valley Music Festival, Cambridge’s famed Club Passim, Stone Mountain Arts Center and many fairs and festivals throughout New England.

Doors open at 6:45 pm. Tickets are $8 at the door. Children 12 and under are free. Light refreshments will be available for sale, BYOB if you wish. This event is generously sponsored by National Life Group Foundation.

Then on Sunday September 24th strap on your hiking boots and join Jon Binhammer, an avid amateur birder, botanist and naturalist for a 2-hour moderate hike in Ainsworth State Park just over the Williamstown line. Jon is a wonderful speaker and educator and you will be sure to learn something new on your journey. Bring plenty of water and wear long pants if possible. This is a moderately challenging hike. Meet at the Brookfield Old Town Hall at 2pm and we will car pool to the park together.

Looking ahead join us Thursday September 28th, at 7pm for our last Indie Film Fest: Harry and Snowman.

Harry deLeyer rescues Snowman off a truck bound for the slaughterhouse, and the unlikely pair go on to rock the world of championship horse jumping. Snowman and Harry have a bond that shows up in the way the horse becomes a member of the deLeyer family, pulling a sled-full of kids in the winter and standing as a diving platform in the summer. Filled with archival footage from jumping competitions, as well as Harry's appearances on the Dick Cavett Show and The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, this is docutainment at its best. One of Harry's riding students recalled his advice: "Throw your heart over the top, and your horse will follow."

Admission is $5. View trailer: http://www.harryandsnowman.com/

Our film series is generously sponsored by Gibson Engineering Co., Inc.

As always, we thank The Frankenburg Agency of Randolph for serving as our lead sponsor for the entire 2017 series of events at the Brookfield Old Town Hall.
