Past event

Come hone your poetry writing skills in a place full of history and meaning on Friday morning, September 15 at the historic Barn House!

The Clemmons Family Farm is thrilled to join Sundog Poetry Center, Inc. in co-hosting a poetry writing workshop led by award-winning poet Tim Seibles at the historic Barn House. This is a unique opportunity for participants to enhance their writing skills by using 'persona' to expand the tonal range of their poetry.

ABOUT THE POET
Watch a 60-second video featuring some of Tim Seible's poetry workshop facilitation skills to help participants channel their "sense of self" into their writing here: http://bit.ly/SeibleWorkshopSample

Dr. Seibles' own poetry approaches themes of racial tension, class conflict, and intimacy from several directions at once in poems with plainspoken yet fast-turning language.

Tim Seibles has published five collections of poetry, most recently, "Fast Animal" (Etruscan Press, 2012). His honors include an Open Voice Award and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center. In a 2010 statement he shared in the audio archive "From the Fishouse", he notes, “I think poetry, if it’s going to be really engaging and engaged, has to be able to come at the issues of our lives from all kinds of angles and all kinds of ways: loudly and quietly, angrily and soothingly, with comedy and with dead seriousness. […] Our lives are worth every risk, every manner of approach.”

WORKSHOP REGISTRATION
To ensure high-quality multicultural interactions with Dr. Seibles and other workshop participants, admission is limited to about 15 people. Workshop fees are $25/person. Coffee, tea, milk/creamer, pastries or other light breakfast fare will be provided. There is still room! Please contact Tamra Higgins at sundogpoetry@gmail.com to register and for more information.
